Come and play with clay with me!
Ceramic Hand Building Workshops
I’m running more ceramic hand building workshops in Glasgow in Autumn and Winter 2025.
These ceramic workshops are suitable for beginners, using hand building techniques to make functional pottery you can take home, for example a flower vase or a mug. They are geared towards learning the basics of working with clay, and fundamental hand building techniques such as pinching and coiling. The workshops will include demonstrations and guidance from me, and I will glaze and fire your wares for you.
Below are the workshop dates for the rest of the year. September workshop tickets are now live, tickets for the rest will be available to book soon. Click the workshop for the individual listing or view all workshop listings here.
If you would like to be the first to know about any 2026 workshops you can sign up to my newsletter here!

Here’s what previous workshop attendees said about their experience of the class.
“First time I’d tried pottery of any kind so was excited but nervous beforehand. Emma, who held the class, couldn’t have been nicer. Emma made everyone feel at ease, asking what I thought I wanted to make. Emma talked through each stage of the process, physically showing us what to do.
My husband and I wanted to do something different, so we thought this would be fun, and it was. I’d recommend this class to anyone, especially beginners.”
“Emma’s beginner’s workshop was great. I really enjoyed this informative introduction to hand building pottery and making my own vase. Looking forward to the next class! ”
“I attended the flower bowl making workshop run by Emma. It was a great class with really clear instructions, easy to follow and very relaxed. Emma clearly knows her stuff and was able to guide us through each stage very clearly. Would recommend! ”
Workshop FAQ’s
What should I wear to the workshop?
Working with clay can be messy. I advise wearing something comfortable that you don’t mind getting dirty, avoiding anything with big sleeves that may get in the way. Bringing an apron with you is also a good idea. Fortunately, clay can be washed out.
How long will it take for me to receive my finished pieces of pottery?
Making your work during the workshop is only the beginning of the process. After the workshop your work needs to dried slowly, bisque fired, glazed, and then finally glazed fire.
Your wares will be ready to collect from my studio in 4-6 weeks. They can also be posted at an additional cost of £5 per piece for UK delivery. If looking to post outside the UK please contact me prior to purchasing to check if I post to your destination.
What if I make more than one piece and would like to have it fired?
Each ticket includes one piece being fired. I am happy to fire any extras at an additional cost of £5 per piece.
Can children attend the workshops?
Workshops are for ages 12 and up, and all under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you book a place on this workshop and can no longer attend, notify me with over two weeks notice to get a full refund. After that, refunds will only be given if the place can be filled. Places can also be transferred to family/friend by providing me with their name and email address.
What happens if my work breaks during the firing?
From time to time pieces can break during the firing, warp, crack or have glaze defects - it is unfortunately the nature of working with clay. I take every precaution to ensure your work makes it through the firing process, but sometimes this is out of our control. Fortunately there can be ways of fixing or repurposing wares.
Are there care instructions for the wares?
You can find info on how best to care for your wares in my care and use page.
